From Uncertainty to a Healthy Foal: Meet Mesa & Montana

When Mesa’s owner adopted her, there were a lot of unknowns. Mesa was an older mare with significant arthritis, and her new owner wasn’t even certain whether she was pregnant, let alone when she might foal. Her mobility challenges, including difficulty lying down and getting back up, added another layer of concern as a potential foaling approached.

Working together, Dr. Bass helped Mesa’s owner navigate the uncertainty, prepare for foaling, and develop a plan tailored to Mesa’s individual needs. With careful preparation and support, Mesa successfully delivered a healthy filly named Montana.

Today, Mesa and Montana are a wonderful reminder of why individualized planning matters. Not every breeding or foaling situation comes with a perfect timeline or a straightforward set of circumstances. Sometimes, having someone help you understand what you’re seeing, prepare for the possibilities, and develop a practical plan can make an uncertain situation feel much more manageable.
